What Is a BSC Honeypot?
A BSC honeypot is a malicious BEP-20 token on BNB Chain designed to let you buy but prevent you from selling. The contract is rigged so that every purchase pumps the price, but when you try to exit, the transaction reverts or is blocked entirely. Your funds are trapped — the honeypot.
Honeypots are the most common scam on BNB Chain because deploying a BEP-20 token costs only a few cents in gas. Scammers create thousands of fake tokens, list them on PancakeSwap, and wait for buyers. Once enough victims have bought in, the deployer either pulls the liquidity or leaves the contract in sell-block mode forever.

BSC-Specific Honeypot Red Flags
Mint Function
The token contract contains a mint function that lets the creator mint unlimited new BEP-20 tokens at any time. This dilutes the supply and crashes the price. If the mint function is not removed or ownership renounced, this is a critical red flag.
Hidden Owner
The contract owner is obfuscated through proxy contracts, multi-sig wrappers, or ownership tricks. Even if the visible owner appears renounced, a hidden owner can still pause transfers, blacklist holders, or mint new tokens at will.
Proxy Contracts
A proxy contract lets the deployer swap the underlying token logic after deployment. They launch a safe token, attract buyers on PancakeSwap, then upgrade the contract to add mint functions, blacklists, or transfer pauses. Guava flags all proxy contracts as high risk.
Transfer Pause
The contract includes a pause function that lets the owner freeze all token transfers. Once paused, no one can sell or move their tokens. This is functionally a honeypot — your funds are trapped until the owner unpauses, which they never do.
